As we reflect on 2025, shaped by the legacy of Chou Wen-chung following the Centennial celebrations, the Chou family and the Spiralis Music Trust would like to express their sincere thanks to composer Lei Liang, who stepped down as Trustee during the year.
Lei Liang has devoted many years to championing the music and legacy of his dear friend and mentor, Chou Wen-chung. Appointed in 2018 as Chair of the Academic Advisory Board and Artistic Director of the Chou Wen-chung Music Research Center at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, Lei Liang played a major role in advancing the Center’s work and international profile. Working alongside a wider community of scholars, performers, and advocates, he helped establish the Center as an important platform for research, publication, performance, and exchange. During this period, scholarly engagement with Chou Wen-chung’s music expanded markedly, accompanied by increased performances and a growing digital presence in China.
In June 2025, Lei Liang attended the Chou Wen-chung Distinguished Lecture series at Xinghai Conservatory for the final time in his role as Artistic Director, inviting fellow Spiralis Music Trustee Kathryn Knight to speak as an international representative and advocate for Chou Wen-chung’s work.
Luyen and Sumin Chou and the Spiralis Music Trust thank Lei Liang warmly for his leadership, generosity of spirit, and enduring contribution, and wish him every success as he continues his distinguished work as a composer and scholar of international importance.
